Michael “Mick” Douglas Summey, 66 of Greeley, passed away peacefully at Northern Colorado Medical Center Hospice wing on Feb. 23, 2013, following complications from a lung transplant. Mick was born in Waynesville, NC, on May 20, 1946 to Ed and Vivian (Caldwell) Summey.
Mick grew up in Clyde, NC, and graduated from Clyde High School in 1964. He then married his high school sweet heart and love of his life Sally Lindsey. They were married for 47 years before his passing. Mick graduated from Ashville Buncombe Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
After the birth of their son Michael, they moved to Henry, NE, in 1969, where they also had a daughter, Michelle. Mick was instrumental in the development of Agriculture equipment, including center pivot irrigation, belt chain for harvesters, and other products that revolutionized the efficiency of harvesting crops while he worked for Lockwood Corp. of Gering, NE. In 1987 Mick and Sally moved to Greeley, CO, where Mick began working as the Sales Manager for Noffsinger Manufacturing, Inc. Mick traveled the country meeting with customers and farmers and continued innovation of harvesting products over his career. Throughout his life Mick was involved with his church. He was a Sunday School teacher and an AWANA Clubs commander for over 20 years. He loved sharing his faith with others and was a part time Missionary for Awana Clubs while he lived in Nebraska.
Mick also loved camping and hiking and arranged many Father & Son fishing trips for his friends and family. Mick and Sally traveled extensively throughout America and Europe. They also took vacations with their grand children. Mick loved to garden and work in his yard and always enjoyed a sunrise from his patio deck.
Mick is survived by his wife, Sally (Lindsey) Summey, and his two children, Michael Douglas Summey, Jr., and his daughter Michelle (and Keith) Kempema; his grandchildren Matthew, Amanda, Lindsey and Anna; his brother Don Milner of Waynesville, NC; his sisters Geraline Jones of Canton, NC, and Edwina Henson of Ashville, NC.
Services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 1st, 2013 at Bethel Baptist Church, 2307 17th Avenue in Greeley. A reception will follow. Inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on March 9th.
